100 questions with model answers

The naturalization interview is a one-on-one exchange with an officer from the prefecture (or the naturalization platform). It checks your assimilation into French society: your background, your motivations, your adherence to the values of the Republic and your knowledge of daily life in France.

Since 1 January 2026, knowledge of history and culture is mainly assessed by the civic exam (an official 40-question multiple-choice test): the interview focuses more on your motivation and personal integration. The knowledge questions below are nevertheless still regularly asked orally. For the method and the mistakes to avoid on the day, see our guide How to pass the naturalization interview.

Answers in [brackets] should be adapted to your personal situation. For questions about the current government, double-check the names a few days before your interview.
